Dr. John Souza, Jr., LMFT, DMFT

Dr. John Souza, Jr., LMFT, DMFT, affectionately known as “Dr. John,” is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and an Approved Supervisor with the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Specializing in working with men struggling with existential crises, couples grappling with communication challenges, and families adjusting to life transitions, Dr. John brings a unique blend of professional expertise enriched by his connection to rhythms and flow as a musician and surfer.

Born on O’ahu and raised on the Mainland, Dr. John earned his Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, focusing on Addictions and Psychopharmacology during a 20-year stint in Minneapolis, MN (where he is also licensed as an LMFT). When he’s not in the therapy room, he enjoys a lifestyle of catching waves, skateboarding, and creating music as “The John Sojourn.”

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. John serves as a cornerstone in the professional community. He was the past president of the Hawaiian Islands Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is an active advocate at the state level for mental health access and utilization rights. His passion for teaching shines through as he instructs a class called “Intimacy, Marriages, and Families” at the University of Hawai’i-Manoa. He offers supervision groups through Elemental Guidance, LLC and organizes MFT national exam study groups.
